Bulldogs top Tigers for first win

LOUISA — Notching its first win in the 2024 high school baseball season, Lawrence County topped 15th Region rival Paintsville 9-4 at Randy Keeton Field on Tuesday, March 12.

Lawrence County starting pitcher Ford Scaggs picked up the win on the mound. Scaggs recorded nine strikeouts over six innings.

Talan Pollock closed out the game on the mound for the Bulldogs. Pollock logged four strikeouts.

Paintsville starting pitcher Dixon Kincheloe took the loss. Kincheloe logged five strikeouts over four and one-third innings.

Following Kincheloe, Luke Stratton and Shane Blair pitched in relief for the Tigers.

Lawrence County scored nine runs on 10 hits. Gray Derifield (three hits, one RBI), Colin Howard (three hits, one RBI), Eli Fletcher (two hits, one RBI), Logan Whisenant (one hit, two RBIs), Boedy Maynard (one hit) and Abner Collinsworth (one RBI) contributed at the plate in Lawrence County’s win. Howard, Fletcher and Whisenant each doubled.

Offensively for Paintsville, Kincheloe (one hit, two RBIs), Brock Horne (two hits), Alex Johnson (one hit, one RBI) and Brody Howell (one hit) each produced at the plate.

Lawrence County is scheduled to visit Paintsville for another game on Monday, May 13.
