Bulldogs top Tigers 9-3

PAINTSVILLE — Lawrence County topped host Paintsville 9-3 in a high school baseball game at Charlie Adkins Field on Thursday, May 12.

The Bulldogs scored first and never trailed. Lawrence County pushed across four runs in the top half of the second inning.

Leading 4-3, Lawrence County erupted for five runs in the top half of the fifth inning to extend its lead.

The Bulldogs outhit the Tigers 14-3.

Talon Pollock earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Pollock pitched three innings, allowing three runs on one hit while recording five strikeouts.

Will Lafferty and Jake Derifield each pitched in relief for the Bulldogs.

Ashton Miller took the loss on the mound for the Tigers. Miller pitched four innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits while striking out two.

Baron Ratliff and Brock Horne each pitched in relief for Paintsville, throwing two and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning, respectively.

Lafferty, Derifield and Abner Collinsworth each recorded multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Lafferty, Derifield and Collinsworth each recorded three hits to lead Lawrence County offensively.

Mason Preston homered for Lawrence County in the second inning. Preston drove in three runs for the Bulldogs.

Making an impact on the mound and at the plate, Lafferty drove in two runs as Lawrence County won.

Austin Allen went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Tigers. Allen, Harris Phelps and Grayson Peters each drove in one run for the Tigers. Phelps connected for the Tigers’ other hit.

Defensively, Paintsville committed five errors while Lawrence County made one miscue in the field.
