Bulldogs to host Pirates for season opener

LOUISA — Lawrence County is set to host 15th Region rival Belfry for its opening game in the 2026 high school baseball season on Tuesday, March 17.

The Bulldogs and Pirates are familiar foes.

Lawrence County and Belfry met once during the 2025 high school baseball season. Perennial title contender Lawrence County won the last game played between the two high school baseball teams, blanking Belfry 6-0 on April 22, 2025.

The Bulldogs and Pirates will meet for a non-district game.

Lawrence County is the reigning 58th District champion. The Bulldogs finished runner-up in the 15th Region one season ago. Lawrence County compiled a 23-11 record in the 2025 high school baseball season. Head coach Travis Feltner guides the Bulldogs.  

Belfry finished as the 60th District runner--up and made an appearance in the 15th Region Baseball Tournament last season. The Pirates compiled a 19-10 record in 2025. Head coach Michael Hagy guides the Pirates.

Both Lawrence County and Belfry opened preseason practice in February.

Lawrence County is scheduled to visit Betsy Layne for its 58th District opener on Wednesday, March 18.

The Lawrence County-Belfry baseball game’s opening pitch is set for 6 p.m.
