HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Behind strong pitching from senior hurler Bryce Blevins, a Lawrence County graduate, Marshall outlasted St. Bonaventure 5-4 at Jack Cook Field on Friday, March 6.
Offensively, Marshall plated five runs on five hits. All five of the Herd’s runs came with two outs.
“It was a tough game,” Marshall Coach Greg Beals said, following the Thundering Herd’s victory. “Give St. Bonaventure credit. They played tough and scrapped. Blev had control of the game. They kind of figured him out there late and strung some hits together. I think the real story of the ballgame is our two-out hitting. We got hits when we needed to.”
Blevins earned his third win of the season with nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings. The Marshal starting pitcher allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits and no walks.
Marshall reliever Charlie Krebs finished the game out of the bullpen with 1.1 hitless innings and two strikeouts for his second save.
Tyler Kamerer paced Marshall at the plate. Kamerer delivered his third straight multi-hit game, sixth of the season, with a two-for-two game with three RBIs and a pair of walks.
