Bulldogs sweep Bobcats in district doubleheader

BETSY LAYNE — Reigning champion Lawrence County swept Betsy Layne in a 58th District baseball doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25, winning 20-0 and 6-5.

Colin Howard pitched two innings in relief for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound.

Logan Whisenant pitched one inning for Lawrence County and claimed the save.

Howard and Whisenant each logged two strikeouts.

Gray Derifield started on the mound for Lawrence County and pitched four innings. Derifield recorded seven strikeouts.

Lawrence County scored six runs on eight hits. The Bulldogs’ offensive attack featured Howard (two hits), Derifield (one hit), Cameron Perkins (two hits, two RBIs), Eli Fletcher (two hits), Tyger Cavins (one hit, three RBIs) and Alex Meadows (one RBI). Howard and Fletcher each doubled twice for the Bulldogs.

Whisenant (one hit, one RBI), Tyger Cavins (two hits, five RBIs), Cameron Perkins (two hits, three RBIs), Boedy Maynard (one hit, two strikeouts), Eli Caudill (one hit, two RBIs) and Brady Caudill (one hit, one RBI) accounted for Lawrence County’s offense in the shutout win.
