Bulldogs sweep Bobcats in 58th District series

LOUISA — Lawrence County swept Betsy Layne in a 58th District baseball series played Tuesday, April 16-Wednesday, April 17.
The Bulldogs outscored the Bobcats 31-1 over eight innings in two games.
Lawrence County 16, Betsy Layne 1 (5 innings): Sweeping a 58th District baseball series, Lawrence County beat Betsy Layne 16-1 in five innings in Stanville on Wednesday, April 17.
Three Lawrence County pitchers combined to limit Betsy Layne to one run on three hits.
Gray Derifield started on the mound for Lawrence County and earned the win. Derifield pitched three innings and recorded six strikeouts.
Chipping in on the mound for Lawrence County, Blake Prater and Colin Howard made relief appearances.
Lawrence County scored 16 runs on six hits. Abner Collinsworth led Lawrence County, finishing two-for-three with two home runs and seven RBIs.
In addition to Collinsworth, Howard (one hit, four RBIs), Eli Fletcher (one hit, one RBI), Jake Derifield (one hit), Logan Whisenant (one hit) and Braxton Davis (one RBI) contributed offensively for the Bulldogs. Howard belted one home run in the Bulldogs’ convincing victory.
Lawrence County 15, Betsy Layne 0 (3 innings): Lawrence County blanked visiting Betsy Layne 15-0 in three innings on Tuesday, April 16.
Braxton Davis, Logan Whisenant and Talan Pollock combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for the Bulldogs. Davis started on the mound for Lawrence County and earned the win.
Lawrence County scored 15 runs on 11 hits. Pollock led Lawrence County at the plate, finishing three-for-three with a home run and four RBIs.
Along with Pollock, Lawrence County’s offensive attack included Jake Derifield (two hits, three RBIs), Eli Fletcher (two hits, one RBI), Abner Collinsworth (one hit, three RBIs), Gray Derifield (one hit, one RBI), Tyger Cavins (one hit), Colin Howard (one hit) and Owen Pack (one RBI). Providing another extra-base hit for Lawrence County, Collinsworth doubled.
