Bulldogs sweep Bobcats in 58th District series

LOUISA — Lawrence County swept Betsy Layne in a 58th District baseball series Wednesday, March 22-Thursday, March 23, winning in back-to-back shutouts.

The district sweep allowed Lawrence County to improve to 3-3 overall and open 2-0 in the 58th District.

Visiting Lawrence County blanked Betsy Layne 9-0 on Thursday, March 23.

Jake Derifield pitched a shutout for the Bulldogs and earned the win. Leading Lawrence County on the mound, Derifield allowed five hits while recording seven strikeouts over seven innings.

Producing offensively, Derifield (one hit, one RBI), Blake Prater (two hits, two RBIs), Cody Crum (two hits), Dylan Whitt (one hit, one RBI), Brayden Maynard (one hit), Ryan Marcum (one hit, one RBI), Abner Collinsworth (one hit), Eli Fletcher (one hit) and Boedy Maynard (one hit) each delivered at the plate for the Bulldogs.

Lawrence County leveled Betsy Layne 15-0 in three innings in a 58th District baseball game at Randy Keeton Field on Wednesday, March 22.

Tyger Cavins picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Cavins allowed only one hit while recording four strikeouts in three innings.

Lawrence County thrived both offensively and defensively. The Bulldogs’ offensive onslaught featured Blake Prater (two hits, two RBIs), Jake Derifield (two hits, two RBIs), Abner Collinsworth (one hit, two RBIs), Brayden Maynard (one hit), Talan Pollock (one hit, one RBI), Eli Fletcher (one hit) and Ryan Marcum (one RBI).
