LOUISA — Lawrence County is slated to face former 16th Region rival Bath County in the Boyd County Roundball Classic on Saturday, Dec. 12. The Bulldogs ended the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season 22-12, finishing runner-up to Martin County in the 15th Region. Lawrence County is the defending 58th District boys' basketball champion. The Bulldogs captured the district championship and finished as the region runner-up in Chandler Thompson's first season as head coach. Lawrence County is a reigning 2A Sectional champion. Johnson Central graduate Bart Williams guides Bath County. Under the direction of Williams, Bath County compiled a 16-17 record during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. The Wildcats finished runner-up to Rowan County in the 61st District and made an appearance in the 16th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament earlier in the year. Lewis County eliminated Bath County from the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball postseason, defeating the Wildcats in the opening round of the 16th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at Morehead State University. The Bulldogs and Wildcats did not meet during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. Both Lawrence County and Bath County are scheduled to open preseason practice in mid-October.
