BALTIMORE, Md. — With Major League Baseball preparing to open a highly-anticipated shortened season in July, Lawrence County High School graduate Chandler Shepherd is on the Baltimore Orioles' 2020 summer camp initial 60-man player pool list. Shepherd, who hails from Louisa, made his first start in Major League Baseball as the Baltimore Orioles hosted the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, Sept. 17. During a productive outing, Shepherd pitched four innings and finished with a no-decision in his first Major League Baseball start. Toronto pulled away to beat Baltimore 8-5 in the late-season MLB matchup. Shepherd threw 68 pitches in the start, allowing only four hits, two of which were home runs. The Lawrence County High School graduate struck out four and walked one as part of his first-ever start in Major League Baseball. Shepherd appeared in five games during the 2019 Major League Baseball Season. He allowed 23 hits and 15 runs over 19 innings, registering 17 strikeouts in his initial MLB campaign. Baltimore is holding its summer camp at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, beginning on July 1. The camp will consist mostly of workouts and intrasquad games. Exhibition games against other teams could be played toward the end of camp.
