Bulldogs shut out Magoffin County 39-0

SALYERSVILLE - Making a strong first impression in the 2020 high school football season, Lawrence County shut out host Magoffin County 39-0 in a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 2. The Bulldogs won a highly anticipated season opener. Following the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in Class 3A, District 8. Lawrence County moved ahead early, scoring in the opening quarter. The Bulldogs led 13-0 at halftime and pulled away to win convincingly after the intermission period. Thriving on the ground, Lawrence County rushed for 334 yards. Dylan Ferguson led Lawrence County to the win, rushing for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Alex Strickland followed, rushing for 77 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs' shutout win.In another solid rushing performance for Lawrence County, Blue Fletcher rushed for 60 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Lawrence County forced Magoffin County to commit four turnovers. Danny Hall, Ryan Marcum and Douglas Hall recorded one interception apiece. In addition to picking off a pass, Douglas Hall recovered a fumble for the Bulldogs. Limited, Magoffin County finished with 109 yards of total offense in the shutout loss. Caleb Howard led Magoffin County defensively, recording 10 tackles. Lawrence County is scheduled to host Class 3A, District 8 rival Pike County Central for its home opener at Luke Varney Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 9.In another Class 3A, District 8 football game set for Friday, Oct. 9. Magoffin County is slated to visit Floyd Central.
