Bulldogs shut out Jaguars

LOUISA — Lawrence County shut out Floyd Central 10-0 in five innings in a 58th District baseball game on Friday, May 1.

With the win, Lawrence County swept Floyd Central in the two teams’ 58th District baseball series.

Gray Derifield pitched a two-hit shutout for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Derifield recorded five strikeouts.

Landon Prater pitched for Floyd Central and suffered the loss on the mound. Prater posted two strikeouts.

Lawrence County scored 10 runs on seven hits. Derifield (one hit, one RBI), Brady Caudill (two hits, one RBI), Boedy Maynard (one hit, one RBI), Grant Cochran (one hit, one RBI), Max Murriel (one hit), Braxton Davis (one hit) and Maddox Fletcher (one RBI) each delivered at the plate in Lawrence County’s shutout win.  Both Caudill and Murriel doubled for the Bulldogs.

Chipping in offensively for Floyd Central, Grant Jenkins and Brance Pennington each hit safely once.  

Lawrence County 6, Floyd Central 2: Lawrence County defeated host Floyd Central 6-2 in the opening game of a 58th District baseball series in Eastern on Thursday, April 30.

Braxton Davis pitched for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Davis recorded seven strikeouts.

Luke Gibson started on the mound for Floyd Central and absorbed the loss. Gibson pitched the first four and two-thirds innings.

Behind Gibson, Barrett Williams pitched the last two and one-third innings in relief for the Jaguars.

Gibson and Williams logged one strikeout apiece.

Lawrence County scored six runs on eight hits. Davis (one hit), Max Murriel (two hits, one RBI), Gray Derifield (two hits), Maddox Fletcher (one hit, two RBIs), Owen Pack (one hit, two RBIs), Grant Cochran (one hit) and Brady Caudill (one RBI) accounted for Lawrence County’s offense. Muriel doubled twice for the Bulldogs.

Mason Anderson (two hits, one RBI), Logan Meade (two hits, one RBI), Brance Pennington (one hit) and Grayson Akers (one hit) accounted for Floyd Central’s offense. Both Anderson and Meade homered.
