Bulldogs rush past Russell 50-10

RUSSELL — Lawrence County rushed past Russell 50-10 in a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 9.

The Bulldogs shook a slow start to beat rival Russell convincingly in the high school football matchup.

Russell scored first and led 7-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter.

But Lawrence County answered, outscoring Russell 22-3 in the second quarter to lead 22-10 at halftime.

Stretching its lead, Lawrence County outscored Russell 28-0 in the third quarter.

Lawrence County rushed 40 times for 430 yards in the win.

Dylan Ferguson led Lawrence County on the ground, rushing 14 times for 156 yards and one touchdown.

Following Ferguson, Cody Crum rushed five times for 83 yards and one touchdown for the Bulldogs.

Behind Crum in Lawrence County’s offensive attack, Talan Pollock rushed eight times for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Aiding the Bulldogs on the ground, Kaden Gillispie rushed three times for 25 yards and two touchdowns.

Through the air, Pollock completed five of 13 passes for 68 yards and one touchdown. Pollock threw one interception.

Gillispie led the Bulldogs in receiving, making five receptions for 68 yards and one touchdown.

Pollock paced the Bulldogs’ defensive unit, posting five tackles.

Contributing defensively for Lawrence County, Ferguson and Dalton Runyons added four tackles apiece.

Gillispie and Lawson Baisden recorded one interception apiece for the Bulldogs.

Limited offensively, Russell rushed 28 times for 87 yards and one touchdown.

Andre Crews-Richardson led Russell on the ground, rushing eight times for 48 yards.

Reaching the endzone, Colby Rocks rushed five times for 21 yards and one touchdown in the Red Devils’ loss.

Ethan Pack paced Russell through the air, completing eight of 20 passes for 85 yards. However, Pack threw two interceptions.

Carson Patrick reeled in four receptions for 33 yards for the Red Devils.

Lawrence County is scheduled to visit Magoffin County for its 2022 Class 3A, District 8 opener on Friday, Sept. 16. Kickoff for the Lawrence County-Magoffin County game is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Salyersville.
