Bulldogs roll past Hornets, Lawrence County claims district championship

LOUISA — Lawrence County defeated Magoffin County 55-12 in its final Class 3A, District 8 game at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 24.
After registering the win, Lawrence County improved to 8-1 overall and finished in 4-0 in Class 3A, District 8. The Bulldogs have claimed the Class 3A, District 8 title.
The Bulldogs took control early and won convincingly on Senior Night.
Quarterback Luke Fetherolf led Lawrence County to the win. Through the air, Fetherolf completed seven passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Fetherolf rushed four times for 69 yards and one touchdown.
As a team, Lawrence County rushed 25 times for 284 yards and five touchdowns. As part of a diverse rushing attack, 11 different Lawrence County players rushed for positive yardage. Following Fetherolf, Kaden Johnson rushed two times for 60 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Aiding Lawrence County on the ground, Darren Brewer and Carlo Chicko added one rushing touchdown apiece.
Chipping in through the air for Lawrence County, Gray Derifield completed a 29-yard touchdown pass.
Chicko, Derifield and Braxton Davis each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for the Bulldogs.
Defensively for Lawrence County, Chicko tallied 13 tackles while Camron Castle supplied 10 tackles.
Delivering from the secondary for Lawrence County, Johnson and Chicko each recorded one interception.
Lawence County is scheduled to visit non-district opponent Boyd County for its final regular season game on Friday, Oct. 31. The Lawrence County-Boyd County matchup is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
