Bulldogs notch district win over Bobcats

STANVILLE — Upending Betsy Layne in a 58th District boys’ basketball game, Lawrence County won 80-71 at Junior Newsome Arena on Friday, Dec. 6.

Lawrence County shot 47.7 percent (31-of-65) from the field. The Bulldogs made seven of 24 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the free throw line.

Visiting Lawrence County used a balanced offensive attack to notch the district win. Five different Lawrence County players reached double figures in the scoring column.

Hayden Perry scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Lawrence County to the district win.

Following Perry in Lawrence County’s offensive attack, Gunnar Woods scored 16 points.

Behind Woods as part of Lawrence County’s versatile offensive effort, Kaiden Harris added 14 points while Caden Muncy and Braxton Davis contributed 10 points apiece.

Chipping in offensively for the Bulldogs, Kaden Johnson and Luke Fetherolf provided six points apiece.

With the win, Lawrence County moved to 3-0 overall and opened 1-0 in the 58th District.

Lawrence County 81, Morgan County 59: Lawrence County topped Morgan County 81-59 in its home opener on Thursday, Dec. 5.

The Bulldogs shot 45.8 percent (33-of-71) from the field in the home opener. Lawrence County shot 30 percent from three-point range, connecting on nine of 30 three-point field goal attempts.

The Bulldogs shot 50 percent (six-of-12) from the free throw line.

Kaiden Harris scored 24 points to pace Lawrence County in its convincing victory.

Accompanying Harris in double figures for Lawrence County, Gunnar Woods scored 18 points and Kaden Johnson netted 16 points.

Barely missing double figures for the Bulldogs, Hayden Perry posted nine points.

Chipping in offensively, Braxton Davis (seven points), Isaiah Hughes (five points) and Luke Fetherolf (two points) supplied Lawrence County’s additional scoring.

Johnson and Fetherolf paced Lawrence County inside, claiming eight rebounds apiece.

Andrew Mortimer
