Artrip leads Lawrence County over Betsy Layne

STANVILLE — Sophomore guard Maddison Artrip scored a game-high 27 points on nine three-point field goals to lead Lawrence County over Betsy Layne 68-49 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game at Junior Newsome Arena on Friday, Dec. 6.

With the win, Lawrence County moved to 2-0 overall and opened 1-0 in the 58th District.

Lawrence County shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs connected on 13 of 33 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 39.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Lawrence County made nine of 14 free throw attempts, shooting 47.4 percent from the foul line.

Artrip drained nine of 13 three-point field goal attempts.

Accompanying Artrip in double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton scored 12 points, Sophie Adkins netted 11 points and Abby Maynard tallied 10 points.

Chipping in offensively for Lawrence County, Caroline See contributed six points and Gracie Woods added two points.

Jayden Jarrell scored 14 points to pace Betsy Layne. Joining Jarrell in double figures for Betsy Layne, Amari Anderson netted 10 points.

The additional scorers for Betsy Layne were Mady Collins (seven points), Jaden Pente (six points), Kinleigh Martin (five points), Laci Hall (five points) and Karly Williams (two points).
