Bulldogs fall to Rowan County on penalty kicks

MOREHEAD — Rowan County outlasted Lawrence County 9-8 in a shootout in the 2A Boys’ Soccer Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Wesley Besselman and Simon McNeill each netted two goals for the Vikings.

The additional scorers for Rowan County in the win over the Bulldogs were Evan Neff, Kamden Logan, Jack Peyton, Tye Lowe and Cameron Crowe, each of whom delivered one goal.

Besselman and Neff each distributed one assist for the Vikings.

Leading Rowan County defensively, goalkeeper Maddox Blunt recorded four saves.

Blake Maynard scored four goals to lead the Bulldogs. In addition to Maynard, Michael Preston (one goal, one assist), Aiden Mynhier (one goal), Andrew Vinson (one goal), Gavin Wells (one goal) and Caden Sweeney (one assist) each contributed offensively for Lawrence County in the tournament match.

Goalkeeper Ryland Brady led the Bulldogs’ defensive effort, recording 10 saves.
