Bulldogs defeat Harlan County, 44-20

BAXTER — Remaining in the win column, Lawrence County defeated Harlan County 44-20 in a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 15.

With the win, Lawrence County improved to 3-1.

As a result of the loss, Harlan County dropped to 0-5.

Harlan County scored first and moved ahead 8-0 but couldn’t maintain its early momentum.

The Bulldogs battled back from behind to outscore Harlan County 14-8 in the first quarter.

Lawrence County managed to double up Harlan County 28-14 in the first half and extended its lead after the intermission period.

The Bulldogs led 36-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Lawrence County piled up 435 total yards. The Bulldogs’ offensive effort included 230 rushing yards.

Will McDavid paced Lawrence County on the ground, rushing 13 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

Ranking second in rushing for the Bulldogs, Cavan Williams took three carries for 63 yards.

Cody Crum added 47 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries for the Bulldogs.

Chipping in on the ground as part of Lawrence County’s offensive effort, Talan Pollock rushed four times for 34 yards.

Pollock paced Lawrence County through the air, completing 12 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns.

Carlo Chicko, Jake Derifield and Dalton Runyons each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for the Bulldogs.

Defensively, Lawrence County held Harlan County to 177 total yards. The Black Bears were limited on the ground, finishing with only 20 rushing yards.

Lawrence County is scheduled to host Estill County for Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 22. The Bulldogs and Engineers will meet for a Class 3A, District 8 opener. Kickoff for the Lawrence County-Estill County game is set for 7:30 p.m.
