Bulldogs fall to Magoffin County in triple overtime

SALYERSVILLE — Visiting Lawrence County suffered a setback as Magoffin County prevailed 87-82 in triple overtime in a boys' high school basketball game on Monday, Jan. 24.

Following the loss, Lawrence County dropped to 18-4. Magoffin County improved to 9-10 after notching the win.

The Hornets shot 54.1 percent (33 of 61) from the field. Magoffin County shot 31.8 percent (seven of 22) from three-point range,

The Hornets shot 58.3 percent (14 of 24) from the free throw line.

Aden Barnett scored 27 points to lead Magoffin County to the win.

Providing a double-double for the Hornets, Zane Whitaker scored 23 points and pulled down 23 rebounds.

Magoffin County featured four scorers in double figures as Ben Lafferty added 14 points and Grayson Whitaker contributed 12 points. In addition to reaching double figures in scoring, Lafferty grabbed eight rebounds.

Cody Maynard, Trenton Adkins and Anthony Johnson combined to lead the Bulldogs.

Lawrence County slipped into the loss column after reeling off three straight wins.
