Bulldogs fall to Indians in Boys’ Sweet 16

LEXINGTON — Montgomery County dealt Lawrence County a season-ending loss, defeating the Bulldogs 98-72 in the opening round of the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament at Rupp Arena on Thursday, March 27.

The Indians outscored the Bulldogs in each of the first three quarters.

Montgomery County took control early, outscoring Lawrence County 25-15 in the initial period.

After owning the same scoring advantage in the second quarter, Montgomery County entered halftime ahead 50-30.

Extending its lead, Montgomery County outscored Lawrence County 26-19 in the third quarter.

Prior to suffering the season-ending loss, Lawrence County outscored Montgomery 23-22 in the final period.

Montgomery County shot 53.5 percent (38-of-71) from the field. The Indians shot 50 percent (16-of-32) from three-point range.

Montgomery County shot 85.7 percent (six-of-seven) from the free throw line.

Active outside and inside, Montgomery County outrebounded Lawrence County 53-30.

Luke Fawns paced Montgomery County, scoring a game-high 23 points for the Indians. Accompanying Fawns in double figures for Montgomery County, Tyce Jarvis scored 21 points and Cayden Reed netted 15 points.

Montgomery County received scoring from 11 different players. The other scorers for Montgomery County were Dawson Gentry (eight points), Ethan Dunn (eight points), Dane Klute (seven points), Andrew Terry (six points), Price Campbell (three points), Austin Hatton (three hits), Isaiah Rowlett (two points) and Noah Routt (two points).

Terry provided a strong presence inside for Montgomery County, clearing out 14 rebounds.

Lawrence County shot 41.2 percent (28-of-68) from the field. Limited beyond the arc, the Bulldogs connected on only two of 20 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from the free throw line.

Kaiden Harris paced Lawrence County, scoring a team-high 18 points for the Bulldogs. Joining Harris in double figures for Lawrence County, Kaden Johnson scored 16 points, Gunnar Woods netted 15 points and Hayden Perry posted 10 points.

Finishing in single digits, Luke Fetherolf (seven points), Caden Muncy (two points), Braxton Davis (two points) and Wyatt Branham (two points) accounted for the rest of Lawrence County’s scoring.

Lawrence County exited the 2024-25 boys’ high school basketball season 23-11.
