Bulldogs defeat Wildcats in season opener

ROBINSON CREEK — Lawrence County defeated 15th Region rival Shelby Valley 13-8 in its season opener on Tuesday, March 18.

Eli Fletcher started on the mound for Lawrence County and earned the win. Fletcher pitched four innings and recorded six strikeouts.

Logan Whisenant and Gray Derifield each pitched in relief for the Bulldogs. Whisenant pitched two and one-third innings and logged four strikeouts on his way to claiming the save.

Lawrence County scored 13 runs on 12 hits. Fletcher (four hits), Whisenant (two hits, two RBIs), Derifield (two hits), Tyger Cavins (two hits), Colin Howard (one hit, two RBIs), Brady Caudill (one hit, one RBI), Boedy Maynard (two RBIs), Owen Pack (two RBIs) and Cameron Perkins (one RBI) each contributed to Lawrence County’s offensive attack. Helping his pitching cause at the plate, Fletcher doubled.

Lawrence County is scheduled to visit Shelby Valley for a late-season game on Tuesday, May 13.
