Bulldogs edge Red Devils 3-2

LOUISA — Lawrence County edged visiting Russell 3-2 in a high school baseball game on Wednesday, April 7.

The Bulldogs, which improved to 4-1, plated two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to pull out the win over the Red Devils.

Russell, a 16th Region member, lost despite outhitting the Bulldogs 6-3. However, Russell committed four errors.

Jacob Fletcher was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs. Fletcher surrendered two runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out seven.

Russell pitcher Daniel Blanton suffered the loss. Blanton surrendered three runs on three hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one.

Blue Fletcher, Jake Derifield and Braydan Maynard each collected one hit for the Bulldogs. Maynard doubled and delivered a game-high two RBIs for Lawrence County.

Contributing offensively for Lawrence County, Mason Preston drove in one run.

Cole Ward led Russell at the plate, providing two hits in four at-bats for the Red Devils.

Defensively, Lawrence County committed only one error.

Lawrence County claimed its second straight win after doubling up Martin County 10-5 on Monday, April 5.
