LOUISA — Lawrence County battled back from behind to beat Pikeville 5-4 on Monday, May 8.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to complete a successful come-from-behind bid.
Lawrence County starting pitcher Jake Derifield claimed the win on the mound. Derifield pitched six and two-thirds innings.
Closing out the game on the mound for Lawrence County, Will Lafferty recorded the final out to notch the save.
Lafferty delivered three hits and one RBI for the Bulldogs. Connecting for an extra-base hit, Lafferty doubled.
Along with Lafferty, Derifield (one hit, two RBIs), Abner Collinsworth (one hit, one RBI), Braxton Davis (one hit, one RBI) and Boedy Maynard (one hit) produced at the plate for Lawrence County in the come-from-behind win.
A pair of perennial 15th Region title contenders, Lawrence County and Pikeville met for the first time in the 2023 high school baseball season.
