Bulldogs edge Engineers 19-18, win district opener

IRVINE — Lawrence County held on to edge Estill County 19-18 in a Class 3A, District 8 game on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The win allowed Lawrence County to improve to 4-1 overall and open 1-0 in Class 3A, District 8.

Estill County dropped to 3-3 overall and opened 0-1 in Class 3A, District 8 after suffering the loss.

Following a scoreless opening quarter, Lawrence County scored first in the second period.

However, Estill County answered and entered halftime out in front 12-7.

But Lawrence County continued to push for a district win on the road. The Bulldogs led 13-12 at the end of conclusion of the third quarter.

Lawrence County scored via the ground and through the air during the district matchup.

Connar York delivered a rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs.

Productive through the air for Lawrence County, quarterback Luke Fetherolf delivered two touchdown passes.

Andrew Ratcliff and Carlo Chicko each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for the Bulldogs.

Lawrence County has regular season games remaining versus Belfry, Magoffin County, Powell County, Boyd County and Mason County. Through its first five regular season games, Lawrence County has outscored opponents 152-107.

Lawrence County is scheduled to host rival Belfry for another Class 3A, District game on Friday, Oct. 4.
