Bulldogs drop game to Tomcats

LOUISA — Ashland prevented Lawrence County from returning to the win column, defeating the Bulldogs 11-1 in six innings on Saturday, May 9.
Lawrence County slipped to 15-13 after suffering the loss.
Parker Johnson started on the mound for Ashland and earned the win. Johnson pitched four inning and tallied two strikeouts.
Eli Foster replaced Johnson on the mound for Ashland and closed out the game. Foster pitched one inning and struck out one Lawrence County batter.
Gray Derifield started on the mound for Lawrence County and took the loss. Derifield struck out two Ashland batters.
Both Eli Caudill and Colin Adams made relief appearances for the Bulldogs. Caudill pitched two and one-third innings in relief for Lawrence County and posted four strikeouts.
Ashland scored 11 runs on 10 hits. LJ Murphy (three hits, three RBIs), Connor Flowers (three hits, one RBI), Brady Marushi (one hit, three RBIs), Zane Ingram (one hit, one RBI), Chandler Kisor (one hit, one RBI) and Asher Moore (one hit, one RBI) each thrived at the plate in Ashland’s 10-run win. Both Marushi and Kisor homered. In another strong performance, Murphy doubled three times.
Lawrence County pushed across one run on three hits. Derifield (one RBI), Caudill (one hit), Boedy Maynard (one hit) and CJ Whitt (one hit) supplied Lawrence County’s offense.
George Washington (W.Va.) 4, Lawrence County 1: Lawrence County slipped into the loss column as visiting George Washington (W.Va.) won 4-1 on Friday, May 8.
Braxton Davis started on the mound for Lawrence County and suffered the loss. Davis pitched four innings and logged five strikeouts.
Behind Davis, Grant Cochran pitched three innings in relief for the Bulldogs. Cochran struck out one George Washington batter.
Lawrence County was limited offensively throughout the game. The Bulldogs plated one run on two hits. Cochran and CJ Whitt each hit safely once for the Bulldogs.
