Golden Eagles fend off Blackcats 11-6

BELFRY — Continuing to win, Johnson Central topped Prestonsburg 11-6 in the semifinals of the 58th District Baseball Tournament at Belfry High School on Saturday, May 28.

The Golden Eagles scored first and never trailed. Johnson Central erupted for six runs in the bottom half of the first inning.

The Golden Eagles outhit the Blackcats 9-6.

Cameron Kelsey earned the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Kelsey pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out five and walking one. Contributing on the mound, Brock Butcher and Dawson Montgomery each pitched in relief for the Golden Eagles.

Matt Welch absorbed the loss on the mound for the Blackcats. Welch pitched one and one-third innings, allowing six runs on three hits while striking out two.

Jon Little paced Prestonsburg at the plate, delivering three hits in four at bats. Little homered for the Blackcats in the fifth inning.

Cole Ward and Conner Lemaster recorded two hits apiece for the Golden Eagles. Lemaster logged three RBIs while Bryce Spencer, Matt Crum and Gavin Crum added two RBIs apiece.

Reigning champion Johnson Central advanced to meet Lawrence County in the 15th Region Baseball Tournament title game.
