Bulldogs defeat Morgan County in season opener

LOUISA — Opening the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season with a win, Lawrence County defeated visiting Morgan County 57-47 on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Lawrence County carried a single digit lead out of each quarter, outscoring Morgan County 12-10 in the first period.

The Bulldogs led 23-21at halftime and started strong in the second half, doubling up Morgan County 12-6 in the third quarter.

Lawrence County shot 60.9 percent (14 of 23) from the free throw line in the win.

The Bulldogs out-rebounded Morgan County 35-31.

Three players reached double figures for Lawrence County in the win. Andrew Bloomfield led Lawrence County, scoring a game-high 21 points for the Bulldogs.

Accompanying Bloomfield in double figures for Lawrence County, Hayden Perry scored 12 points and Will Lafferty netted 10 points.

Rounding out Lawrence County’s individual scoring, Ford Scaggs added eight points and Blake Marcum chipped in six points.

Lafferty paced Lawrence County inside, pulling down eight rebounds.

Eli Griffith scored 11 points to lead the Cougars. Joining Griffith in double figures for Morgan County, Allen Justice netted 10 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Morgan County, Cody Dagnan added nine points.

Rounding out Morgan County’s individual scoring, Gatlin Griffith, Cameron Adams and Logan Spencer posted six points apiece.

Adams pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Cougars.
