Bulldogs defeat Estill County on Homecoming, 33-12

LOUISA — Lawrence County overcame a slow start to defeat Estill County 33-12 in a Class 3A, District 8 opener at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Sept. 22.

The Bulldogs won on Homecoming, improving to 4-1 overall and opening 1-0 in Class 3A, District 8.

Estill County scored first and led 6-0 at the end of the opening quarter.

Lawrence County moved ahead 7-6 during the second quarter but couldn’t maintain the lead.

After regaining the lead, Estill County led 12-7 at halftime but Lawrence County managed to move back ahead after the intermission period and controlled the second half.

After reaching the endzone twice during the third quarter, Lawrence County led 21-12 heading into the final period.

The Bulldogs added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Lawrence County rushed 30 times for 295 yards and four touchdowns in its district win.

Cody Crum led Lawrence County on the ground, rushing 15 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Crum in Lawrence County’s rushing attack, Caven Williams took a single carry in for a 60-yard touchdown.

Another Lawrence County running back, Will McDavid, added 54 rushing yards.

Contributing on the ground for the Bulldogs, Talan Pollock added one rushing touchdown.

Through the air, Pollock completed five passes for 70 yards and one touchdown. Pollock connected with Abner Collinsworth on a scoring pass.

McDavid (six tackles, one-half sack), Ty Brooks (one and one-half sacks) and Luis Chicko (five tackles) combined to pace Lawrence County defensively.

Lawrence County is scheduled to visit Belfry for another Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 29.
