Bulldogs defeat Blackcats for back-to-back district wins

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County shut out Prestonsburg 16-0 in four innings in the final game of a 58th District baseball series at StoneCrest on Wednesday, March 25.

The win allowed Lawrence County to sweep Prestonsburg in the 58th District baseball series.

Lawrence County erupted for a dozen runs during the top half of the fourth inning to put the 58th District baseball game completely out of Prestonsburg’s reach.

Braxton Davis pitched a three-hit shutout for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Davis struck out two Prestonsburg batters.

Lawrence County scored 16 runs on eight hits. Davis (one hit), Gray Derifield (two hits, two RBIs), Owen Pack (one hit, three RBIs), Max Murriel (one hit, two RBIs), Maddox Fletcher (one hit, two RBIs), Brady Caudill (one hit, one RBI) and Grant Cochran (one hit, one RBI) supplied Lawrence County’s offense.

Lawrence County 10, Prestonsburg 5: Lawrence County doubled up Prestonsburg 10-5 in the opening game of a 58th District baseball series in Louisa on Tuesday, March 24.

Grant Cochran pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound.  

Boedy Maynard started on the mound for Lawrence County and pitched four and one-third innings.

Cochran and Maynard combined to record five strikeouts.

Lawrence County scored 10 runs on 10 hits. Cochran led Lawrence County at the plate, finishing three-for-four with a double and four RBIs.

Along with Cochran, Maynard (one hit), Alex Meadows (one hit, one RBI), CJ Whitt (one hit, one RBI), Brady Caudill (one hit), Braxton Davis (one hit), Max Murriel (one hit), Maddox Fletcher (one hit) and Owen Pack (one RBI) were successful offensively for the Bulldogs.
