LOUISA — Lawrence County topped Prestonsburg 8-2 in the 58th District Baseball Tournament title game at Randy Keeton Field on Tuesday, May 21.

The Bulldogs scored first and never trailed. Lawrence County pushed across three runs in the bottom half of the opening inning.

The Bulldogs led 8-0 before Prestonsburg crossed home plate twice during its final at-bat.

Braxton Davis started on the mound for Lawrence County and earned the win. Davis pitched six innings and recorded six strikeouts.

Contributing defensively for Lawrence County, Talan Pollock pitched the final inning.

Kaden Allen started on the mound for Prestonsburg and took the loss. Allen pitched five and one-third innings and recorded 10 strikeouts.

Contributing on the mound, Brayden Tussey pitched two-thirds of an inning for the Blackcats.

Lawrence County scored eight runs on eight hits. Logan Whisenant (two hits, one RBI), Eli Fletcher (two hits, one RBI), Colin Howard (one hit, two RBIs), Blake Prater (one hit, one RBI), Boedy Maynard (one hit, one RBI) and Gray Derifield (one hit) delivered offensively for the Bulldogs. Howard and Fletcher, who was named the 58th District Baseball Player of the Year, doubled.

Prestonsburg plated two runs on four hits. Allen (one RBI), Brett Davis (two hits), Luke Hall (one hit, one RBI) and Barrett Hunter (one hit) each chipped in offensively for the Blackcats.

Both Lawrence County (19-11) and Prestonsburg (14-20) advanced to the 15th Region Baseball Tournament.
