LOUISA — Third-seeded Lawrence County outlasted No. 1 seed Betsy Layne 70-66 in overtime in the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament championship game on Thursday, Feb. 23.

Andrew Bloomfield, who was named the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament Most Valuable Player, scored 23 points to lead Lawrence County to the win.

Lawrence County edged Betsy Layne 16-15 in the first quarter but faced a deficit midway through the district championship game.

Betsy Layne, the 2021-22 58th District boys’ basketball champion, led 29-25 at halftime.

The Bobcats clung to a 42-39 lead at the end of third quarter.

But the Bulldogs battled back from behind to tie the game 63-63 late in the fourth quarter.

After pulling event late in regulation, Lawrence County outscored Betsy Layne 7-3 during overtime to claim the district championship.

Joining Bloomfield in double figures, Hayden Perry connected on five three-point field goals and scored 19 points for the Bulldogs.

Along with Bloomfield and Perry reaching double figures for Lawrence County, Blake Maynard netted 12 points.

Contributing to Lawrence County’s winning effort, Will Lafferty tossed in eight points while Kaden Gillispie and Logan Ratliff added four points apiece.

Andrew Kidd scored 17 points to lead Betsy Layne in the district title game.

Finishing directly behind Kidd in scoring for the Bobcats, Brady Robinson netted 16 points.

Along with Kidd and Robinson reaching double figures for Betsy Layne, Cameron Pente added 14 points.

Finishing in single digits for Betsy Layne, Carter Parsons and Bryon Tackett posted eight points apiece while Tanner Martin contributed three points.

Both Lawrence County (18-14) and Betsy Layne (19-10) advanced to the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament.

Floyd Central 65

Five scorers reached double figures as Lawrence County defeated Floyd Central 73-65 in the semifinals of the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The win allowed Lawrence County to improve to 17-14. The Bulldogs advanced to meet Betsy Layne in the 58th District boys’ basketball title game.

Blake Marcum scored 19 points to lead Lawrence County to the win.

Following Marcum in double figures for Lawrence County, Hayden Perry scored 16 points. Will Lafferty netted 14 points for the Bulldogs while Kaden Gillispie and Andrew Bloomfield added 10 points apiece.

Finishing outside double figures for Lawrence County, Ford Scaggs chipped in four points.

Braden Moore (17 points), Ronnie Samons (14 points), Dawson Moore (12 points) and Eric Burke (11 points) each reached double figures for Floyd Central in the district tournament game.

The other scorers for Floyd Central were Chris Spriggs (seven points), Dylan Boyd (three points) and Brody Buck (one point).

The loss eliminated Floyd Central from the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament. Floyd Central exited the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season 19-9
