LOUISA — Returning to the win column, Lawrence County blanked Belfry 6-0 on Tuesday, April 22.
The Bulldogs started strong, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the opening inning.
Then, after being held scoreless in back-to-back innings, Lawrence County crossed home plate once in each of its last three at-bats.
Braxton Davis pitched a five-hit shutout for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Davis recorded six strikeouts.
Chase Varney started on the mound for Belfry and took the loss. Varney posted four strikeouts for the Pirates.
Dante Davis replaced Varney on the mound and pitched in relief for the Pirates. Davis tallied six strikeouts.
Varney and Davis pitched three innings apiece for the Pirates.
Lawrence County made the most of its offensive opportunities. The Bulldogs scored six runs on four hits. Brady Caudill (one hit, two RBIs), Colin Howard (one hit, one RBI), Gray Derifield (one hit) and Eli Fletcher (one hit) each reached base safely for Lawrence County after making contact at the plate. Both Caudill and Fletcher doubled for the Bulldogs.
Bryce Hagy (two hits), Zachary Fite (one hit), Davis Hagy (one hit) and Garrett Maynard (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Pirates.
