LOUISA — Lawrence County blanked visiting Boyd County 7-0 in the 2A, Section 8 Boys’ Soccer Tournament title match on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

Under the direction of Coach Scott Johnson, Lawrence County captured its first 2A, Section 8 boys’ soccer title.

Blake Maynard scored five goals to lead Lawrence County to the championship-clinching win. Maynard is among the top boys’ high school soccer players in the state.

Aiding Lawrence County in its convincing victory, Jack Cline and Andrew Vinson added one goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Ryland Brady paced Lawrence County defensively, recording nine saves for the Bulldogs.

Logan Bradley, Conner Davis and Elaviene Davis split time at goalkeeper for Boyd County in the match. Elaviene Davis recorded four saves while Conner Davis tallied three saves.

Lawrence County improved to 4-1 after the notching the win.

As a result of the loss, Boyd County dropped to 0-3-1.

Lawrence County claimed its first-ever win over Boyd County, a rival from the bordering 16th Region.

The Bulldogs advance to the 2A Boys’ Soccer State Tournament, which will be held in Owensboro in September.

A contender for the 15th Region title, Lawrence County notched its fourth straight win after falling in a season opener.

Lawrence County and Boyd County aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2023 boys’ high school soccer season.
