Bulldogs beat St. Joseph Central 89-68

LOUISA — Lawrence County pulled away to beat St. Joseph Central (W.Va.) 89-68 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The Bulldogs excelled offensively, shooting 55.7 percent (34-of-61) from the field. Lawrence County shot 33.3 percent (seven-of-21) from three-point range in its win over the West Virginia team.
The Bulldogs shot 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the free throw line.
Taking control early, Lawrence County outscored St. Joseph Central 19-14 in the opening quarter.
The Bulldogs led 36-24 at halftime and remained in control midway through the second half.
Finishing strong, Lawrence County outscored St. Joseph Central 27-26 in the third quarter.
Blake Marcum scored 22 points and claimed eight rebounds to lead Lawrence County to the victory.
Along with Marcum reaching double figures for the Bulldogs, Gunnar Woods scored 18 points, Hayden Perry netted 15 points and Andrew Bloomfield added 11 points.
Nine different players scored for the Bulldogs. Logan Ratliff (seven points), Luke Fetherolf (six points), Ford Scaggs (four points), Kaden Johnson (three points) and Braxton Davis (two points) were Lawrence County’s other scorers.
St. Joseph Central managed to make 10 three-point field goals. The Fighting Irish connected on 10 of 12 free throw attempts.
Miciah Ehrim scored 19 points to lead the Fighting Irish. Joining Ehrim in double figures for St. Joseph Central, Grady Paynter scored 14 points, Gavin Polan netted 12 points and Nymir Bryant tallied 10 points.
Finishing outside double figures, Carter Woelfel (seven points) and Isaiah Sanders (six points) provided St. Joseph Central’s other scoring.
