Lawrence County beats Prestonsburg 59-35

LOUISA — Posting its second straight win, Lawrence County beat Prestonsburg 59-35 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Jan. 26.

Following the win, Lawrence County improved to 12-7 overall and 3-1 in the 58th District.

Setting the tone, Lawrence County outscored Prestonsburg 16-7 in the opening quarter.

Lawrence County led 33-16 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

Sophie Adkins scored 22 points to lead Lawrence County to the district win. In addition to Adkins reaching double figures for Lawrence County, Kaison Ward netted 12 points.

Barely missing double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton tossed in nine points.

Lawrence County, which made 14 of 20 free throw attempts, received additional scoring from Abby Nelson (six points), Leandra Curnutte (six points), Abby Maynard (three points) and Hallie Adkins (one point).

Audrey Prater scored 13 points to pace Prestonsburg in the district game. Prater was the only Prestonsburg player to reach double figures.

The other scorers for Prestonsburg were Haley Lafferty (six points), Jade Fitzpatrick (six points), Allison Howard (six points), Ashley Tackett (two points) and Amelia Newsome (two points).

Prestonsburg connected on six of 12 free throw attempts in the district matchup.
