Bulldogs beat Rowan County in season opener, 34-14

LOUISA — Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Rowan County 34-14 in a high school football season opener at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Aug. 18.

The Bulldogs scored first and never trailed, carrying a 20-14 lead out of the first quarter,

Lawrence County led 26-14 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

The Bulldogs led 34-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Lawrence County rushed 45 times for 315 yards and three touchdowns. Leading Lawrence County on the ground, Cody Crum rushed 17 times for 169 yards and one touchdown.

Ranking as Lawrence County’s second-leading rusher, William McDavid took 16 carries for 116 yards.

Reaching the endzone twice in Lawrence County’s win, Eli Fletcher rushed four times for 29 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Luke Fetherolf paced the Bulldogs through the air, completing seven passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

Dalton Runyons and Logan Ratliff each hauled in a touchdown pass reception for the Bulldogs.

Making an impact via special teams for the Bulldogs, kicker Brayden Queen connected on two of three extra-point kick attempts.

Following its season-opening victory, Lawrence County is scheduled to host Shelby Valley in the Lawrence County Farm Bureau Bowl at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25.
