Bulldogs beat Pike County Central 42-6

BUCKLEYS CREEK — Lawrence County pulled away to beat host Pike County Central 42-6 in a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 8.
Following the win, Lawrence County improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in Class 3A, District 8.
Pike County Central dropped to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in Class 3A, District 8 as a result of the loss.
Setting the tone early for the Bulldogs, Nick Collinsworth returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
Lawrence County led 7-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter and added to its lead in the second period. The Bulldogs scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 20-0 at halftime
Lawrence County outscored Pike County Central 22-6 in the third quarter to set the final score.
The Bulldogs amassed 325 total yards. Lawrence County rushed 25 times for 189 yards in the district win.
Dylan Ferguson paced the Bulldogs on the ground, rushing nine times for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Blue Fletcher finished as Lawrence County's second-leading rusher, taking six carries for 42 yards.
Contributing on the ground for Lawrence County, Douglas Hall added one rushing touchdown.
Quarterback Alex Strickland led Lawrence County through the air, completing three of six passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
Collinsworth and Kaden Gillispie hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Bulldogs.
Lawrence County thrived both offensively and defensively. Caden Ball recorded 4.5 tackles to lead Lawrence County's defensive unit.
Lawrence County is scheduled to visit Belfry for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 15.
