Boyd County defeats Lawrence County in 2A - Section 8 semifinals

BUCKLEYS CREEK — Boyd County pulled away to defeat Lawrence County 65-38 in the semifinals of the 2A - Section 8 Girls’ Basketball Tournament at Pike County Central High School on Friday, Jan. 5.

The loss eliminated Lawrence County from the 2A - Section 8 Girls’ Basketball Tournament. Following the loss, Lawrence County dropped to 10-5.

Boyd County shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field. The Lady Lions shot 40 percent (eight-of-20) from three-point range.

Turning in a solid performance, Boyd County shot 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line and outrebounded Lawrence County 28-21.

Audrey Biggs scored 19 points to lead Boyd County to the win.

Joining Biggs in double figures for Boyd County, Jasmine Jordan scored 16 points and Jada Ray netted 10 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Boyd County, Taylor Bartrum added nine points.

Six players accounted for all of Boyd County’s scoring in the tournament game. Sophia Stevens (six points), Isabella Opell (three points) and Myla Hamilton (two points) combined to round out Boyd County’s scoring.

Lawrence County shot 33.3 percent (13-of-39) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made only two of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

However, Lawrence County managed to shoot 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free throw line.

Kaison Ward scored nine points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. In addition to Ward, Lawrence County’s scoring effort included Sophie Adkins (seven points), Hallie Adkins (six points), Jada Patton (six points), Addison Bloomfield (five points), Leandra Curnutte (three points) and Abby Maynard (two points).
