Golden Eagles defeat Fairview 78-72

PAINTSVILLE — Returning to the win column, Johnson Central defeated Fairview 78-72 on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Johnson Central shot 54.4 percent (31-of-57) from the field. The Golden Eagles made two of nine three-point field goal attempts.

Johnson Central shot 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line.

Four Johnson Central players reached double figures in scoring.

Austin Slone scored a game-high 30 points to lead Johnson Central to the win. Slone made 13 of 17 two-point field goal attempts.

Joining Slone in double figures for Johnson Central, Kyle Rose scored 15 points, Brayden Shepherd netted 12 points and Dawson Montgomery added 11 points.

Shepherd logged a double-double, collecting a game-high 11 rebounds.

Finishing as Johnson Central’s second-leading rebounder, Rose collected eight caroms.

Accounting for Johnson Central’s other scoring, Andrew Meeks contributed eight points and Jacob Breeding chipped in two points.

Fairview shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field. The Eagles shot 38.5 percent from three-point range, making 10 of 26 three-pointers.

Struggling to make foul shots, Fairview connected on only two of seven free throw attempts.

Tamel Smith scored 23 points to lead Fairview, a team out of the 16th Region.

Delivering a double-double for Fairview, Steven Day scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Joining Smith and Day in double figures for Fairview, Treyvor Pauley netted 10 points.

Seven different players supplied scoring for the Eagles. Fairview’s other scorers were Aiden Daily (six points), Tanner Reihs (five points), Roman Mayes (four points) and Tevin Smith (three points).
