ASHLAND — Homestanding Boyd County erupted for seven runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to defeat visiting Johnson Central 7-4 in a high school baseball game on Saturday, April 3.
The Lions won despite committing five errors.
Boyd County edged Johnson Central 7-6 in the hits column.
Jacob Vanover earned the win on the mound for the Lions. Vanover surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out two.
Jake Biggs threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen for Boyd County. Biggs recorded the last three outs to claim the save.
Luke Patton started the game on the mound for the Lions. Patton pitched four innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one.
Johnson Central pitcher Chandler Spradlin suffered the loss. Spradlin pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing six runs on five hits while striking out one and walking one.
Cameron Kelsey started the game on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Kelsey pitched four innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero.
Peyton Jackson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Boyd County in the hits column.
Ryan Sartin-Slone led Johnson Central at the plate, connecting for two hits in three at-bats.
Contributing at the plate for the Golden Eagles, Keygan Pelfrey doubled and drove in two runs.
