Belfry beats Lawrence County in eight innings

BELFRY – Belfry managed to outlast visiting Lawrence County 9-8 in eight innings in a high school baseball game on Wednesday, May 26.

The Bulldogs and Pirates swapped lears during the late-season high school baseball matchup.

Ashton Deskins earned the win on the mound for the Pirates. Deskins pitched six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out six.

Jacob Fletcher started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs. Fletcher pitched four innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out three.

Talon Pollock and Eli Fletcher each pitched in relief for Lawrence County, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings, respectively.

Lawrence County outhit 15th Region counterpart Belfry 13-11 but committed six errors.

Gage Fields, Jonathan Banks and Devin Jude recorded two hits apiece for Belfry. Banks and Jude each drove in two runs for the Pirates.

Jake Derifield, Brayden Maynard, Bryce Blevins and Blue Fletcher each racked up multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Derifield went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Lawrence County's offensive attack.
