USS Hornet CV-12 dedication ceremony honoring Johnson County men who served to be July 15
Paintsville Lake State Park has been chosen as the location for the USS Hornet CV-12 World War II Monument.
A dedication ceremony will be held on Monday, July 15, 4 p.m. at the lake.
17 crew members of the USS Hornet were from Johnson County. Of these men, Mr. Worth Goble is the only surviving serviceman. At the age of 99, he still resides in Johnson County.
The following men served: Glen Ford Bland (S1C); George Blanton, Jr. (S2C); Kenneth Borders (S1C-ShipFitter/Welder); Walter Childers, (AMM3C- Aviation), Harold Leslie Davis, Sr. (S1C-Gunner), Worth Goble (S1C-Radar Operator); Francis Marion Lemaster (S1C); Charles Ray May (S1C); John Walter McCarty, Jr (S1C); Russell Pack (S1C); Willie Escom Preston (Y3C-Yeoman office duty); Mose Willis Price (S1C); Earnest Robinson (S1C); James Robert Stafford (SSMB3C-Barber); Harlie Sturgill (S1C); and Garth Dalmon Trimble (S1C).
