Area quilt shops are gearing up for this year’s Quiltin’ in the Mountains Shop Hop. The event will begin Friday, July 5 and run through Saturday, July 13.

The sponsors say the object of the event is to make new friends, viewing the natural beauty of the area and supporting local quilt shops.

The 8-day adventure promises to be filled with fabric, fun, prizes and is for beginners, intermediate and experienced quilters.

Five shops will be participating and will have special block pattern kits for sale. This year’s grand prize will be Jazz II sewing machine. To win the prize a passport must be signed by all five shops and then turned in for a drawing.

All five shops will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. They will be closed Sunday, July 7 and open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 13.

The five shops participating are Gran Gran’s Quilting Shop, 304 Main St. Paintsville 606-793-1659; Bridgett’s Quilting and Fabric Shop LLC, 237 Second Street Suite 5, Pikeville 606-424-5972; Quilter’s Play House, 51 Beasley Branch Rd.
