One person was injured Sunday night, June 23, around 9 p.m., after a drive-by shooting in Van Lear.
Law enforcement officers in Johnson County are asking for the public’s assistance.
The Paintsville Police Department turned to social media creating a post explaining the details of the incident stating that witnesses say a blue four-door coupe drove through the Van Lear area and opened fire on the home before leaving the subdivision in the direction of West Van Lear.
This was just after they had received a call from the area saying they heard someone knocking in a disruptive manner and right after shots were fired.
Officers from Paintsville City Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s office, Kentucky State Police and Paintsville Fire arrived, they found shell casings from what they believe came from an AK-47 or SKS type rifle.
One person was injured and flown out for medical treatment with what according to Johnson County Sheriff Scott Hazelette says may have caused an amputation of the victim’s finger.
“If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office or the Johnson County dispatch non-emergency line,” said the post. Dispatch can be reached at 606-789-4221. The JCSO number is 606-789-3411.
