On Saturday, April 20, a call came into Lawrence County 9-1-1 from an IPhone that said there was an accident in the vicinity of 2929 HWY 32. When emergency responders arrived, nothing was found. A shattered cell phone was found later beside the road in the area, but information could not be retrieved from it.
Later in the same afternoon, another call came into 9-1-1 from the location of 3681 Spankem Branch. The cell phone pinged near Mellodyee Mountain in a wooded area.
Fallsburg responders requested Louisa Fire Department to bring their drone to fly over the area they narrowed down, however again, nothing was found after a three-hour search.
According to Fallsburg Fire Chief Chris Jobe, they believe maybe the incident may have happened when someone who possibly was turkey hunting lost their phone off an ATV and the impact caused the phone to send out a distress call.
