Johnson Central High School had a successful event Thursday, Sept. 18, when dozens of people came together in the town of Paintsville in remembrance of Charlie Kirk.
Parker Estep, a member of The Turning Point USA Chapter, said this was not a political event but instead a time to come together to honor a man who put his love for God first, his family next and then his country.
TPUSA is a student program exists to educate young people about the importance of limited government, free markets, and freedom. Kirk started this foundation/organization in 2012
Students are encouraged to be leaders in their communities and educate others on American ideals in a fun and compelling way.
“Charlie had strong values,” said Estep. “We wanted to come together in prayer and in support of each other. This was not something that if you didn’t support Charlie that you were wrong.”
Estep said he hoped to have half the courage Charlie had.
The memorial was filled with musical performances by the high school students, a short sermon, a video of Kirk and his wife, prayer and a candle lighting ceremony.
Riley Gaines of the Riley Gaines Center at the Leadership Institute is expected to be at JCHS on Monday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 p.m., to speak on “American Comeback”.
Gaines has made several appearances with Kirk and is associated with Turning Point USA.
Lawrence County is scheduled to have their Charlie Kirk Memorial on Tuesday, Oct. 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at Lawrence County Soccer Field on Town Hill Road, Louisa.
