Missing Martin County Woman Found Dead

INEZ — A Martin County woman Patty Taylor, 72, who was reported missing after she didn’t return home from a visit to the Appalachian Reach Out food pantry was found dead, by Constable Brad Preece, according to Martin County Coroner Chris Todd.

“She had gone off the road and into the creek,” Todd said. “She drowned.”

Todd pronounced Taylor dead on Thursday at 1 a.m.

Taylor was a graduate of Williamson High School and worked as a bindery worker for a printing company. Taylor loved to dance, especially the Texas Two-Step and collecting gnomes.

Taylor is survived by her daughters, Sandra Varney of Sidney, and Wendy Hildebrandt of Belfry; her siblings, Nancy Williams of Stone, Daisy Cote of Turkey Creek, Becka Nelson of Turkey Creek and Joseph Nelson of Turkey Creek and her stepmother, Alice Nelson of Turkey Creek as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held October 23, at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, with Will Stepp officiating. Burial followed at Weddington-Varney Cemetery, in Sidney, with Phillip Varney, Phillip Varney II, T. J. Diamond, Joe Nelson, and Chris Taylor serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Cameron Varney.
