Martin County Fiscal Court Meeting

INEZ — Martin County Fiscal Court held their regular meeting Thursday during which they hired new employees.

The fiscal court unanimously approved the hiring of two 911 employees, Rhonda Cox, at $14 per hour for full-time employment and Seth Patrick at $11 an hour for part-time employment.

Martin County Judge Executive Lon Lafferty’s secretary is still on the road to recovery and Cara Grace was hired to fill in as his executive secretary at a rate of $12 per hour until she returns.

Lafferty explained that the meeting would serve as a public hearing for LGEA, which he explained is coal severance money and the cooperative road agreement. No comments were heard regarding the hearing.

The court unanimously approved the second reading of the administrative code, which has been revised and updated.

The fiscal court unanimously approved the second reading of the 2023-2024 budget.

The fiscal court also unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding and a resolution for $64,000 that would be used for resurfacing Ground Hog Hollow and Calf Creek.

Two appointments were made to the Housing Authority Board, Joe Levitz of Warfield and Patty Murphy of Lovely.

“We have to periodically update software on the computer, what we’re using now is old, antiquated and not what the state wants us to have,” Lafferty told the court. “The update in our accounting software is what we need for our audits.”

The fiscal court unanimously approved the new program.

In other business, the court approved the minutes from the May 24, special meeting, and the financials.
