Louisa City Council met in regular session December 10 to swear in the new and incumbent council members. Elected to another term were Coty Roe, Caleb Farley, Rose Lester and Keith Chaffin. The new member voted in was Kala Brown. Councilman Joey McClanahan was absent from the meeting and will be sworn in a later date.

Also, during the meeting, the second reading of medical cannabis was unanimously passed by the city council.

Mayor Harold Slone explained during the meeting it was a statewide agreement that each county and city would have some say in whether they would take part in the sale.

“As you know the county put it on the ballot and it passed,” Slone said.

Mayor Slone also made mention that the final payment has been made on the 20 plus year old Louisa Water Plant.

“The plant is in great shape, it is a great plant with recently upgraded technology plenty of capacity and a great staff,” the mayor touted. “I’m sure back when this project started $200,000 a year seemed like the moon but it is paid off.”

The city is also looking for an alternate to serve on the Code Enforcement Board after Corey Vanhoose was sworn in by Eldred “Bud” Adams as a regular member leaving his position as an alternate vacant.
