Joy Hogan Released

LOUISA —Former Lawrence County Attorney Michael Hogan and his wife and legal secretary, Joy, were sentenced on Sept. 27, 2022 and Joy has now served her time and is currently under a three-year supervision.

Joy Hogan was sentenced to serve one year and one day, after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She reported to prison on Jan. 3, 2023. After serving her time, she has three-years of supervised release.

Mandatory conditions of her release said that the drug testing condition is suspended, based on the court’s determination that she poses a low risk of future substance abuse; she must make restitution in accordance with 18 U.S.C. 3668 and 3663A or any other statute authorizing a sentence of restitution; she must cooperate in the collection of DNA, as directed by the probation officer. She must also abide by the standard conditions of supervision and special conditions of her supervision include that she must provide the probation officer with access to any requested financial information.

Michael Hogan was sentenced to serve 42 months incarceration with a three-year supervised release. He reported to prison on Dec. 6.

Criminal monetary penalties require that the Hogan’s pay an assessment of $100 and $366,550 in restitution to the Lawrence County Attorney’s Office. It also said that the court determined that the defendant does not have the ability to pay interest and it is ordered that the interest requirement be waived for monetary restitution.

The schedule of payment on file says that having assessed the defendant’s ability to pay, payment of the total criminal monetary penalties is due in a lump sum payment of $366,650.
