Halloween events scheduled in Big Sandy region

Halloween events are planned throughout the Big Sandy region and Trick or Treat dates have also been scheduled.

Lawrence, Martin, Johnson and Floyd counties have all scheduled Saturday, Oct. 30, as Trick or Treat, with Martin, Johnson and Floyd counties holding theirs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Trick or Treat in Lawrence County and the city of Louisa are scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Wayne County, W.Va., and Fort Gay, W.Va., have also scheduled their Trick or Treat for Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Numerous Halloween events have also been scheduled in the region.

Every Thursday in October, Fallsburg Frontier Campground will be playing a kid-friendly Halloween movie. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per carload, and there will also be concessions, including hot dogs, popcorn, pizza and soda. Children 11 years and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The Cabinet of Health and Family Services and Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency, Inc. are sponsoring a drive-thru Trunk or Treat on Oct. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence County Community Center.

The Fort Gay, W.Va., volleyball team will host a movie night on the field behind the Fort Gay Pre-K-8 school on Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. There will be a $3 admission fee for everyone 12 years old and up. The movie “Goosebumps” will be shown.

Wayne County, W.Va., will also host a Trunk R Treat event from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 on the old Fort Gay High School lawn. The event is sponsored by Sons of the States Motorcycle Club.

Lawrence County Tourism and Sullivan University will sponsor this year’s Nightmare in the Square event on Oct. 30 in Louisa. The event will include food concessions, lemonade sales, a hotdog stand, live music, balloonists, face painting and a costume contest.

The cutest costume is for ages 1-6 year olds, scariest costume for ages 7-14 year olds and most original costume for those 15 years old and up.

In Inez, Main Street Cinema in the Collier Center is showing free Halloween movies every Friday and Saturday throughout the month of October.

The city of Inez is also challenging residents and businesses to a scarecrow competition, and a prize will be awarded in two categories — residence and business — for the best scarecrow display. The displays should be ready to photograph by Oct. 14 before 6 p.m., and the competition will begin on Oct. 16. All photographs of displays will be posted to the city of Inez Facebook page and the residence and business with the most likes on their picture by 10 p.m. on Oct. 23 will be determined the winner.

Martin County Cooperative Extension will host a Scarecrow Stroll on Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with scavenger hunt prizes and more.
